Cisco Clifton’s Fillin’ Station

[00:00.04] Cisco Clifton had a fillin' station [00:16.34] About a mile and a half from town [00:18.14] Most cars passed unless they were out of gas [00:22.34] So Cisco was always around [00:24.78] Regular gas was all that it sold [00:27.94] Except tobacco matches and oil [00:29.91] Other than that he fixed lots of flats [00:32.57] Keepin' Cisco rough hands soiled [00:35.13] He'd wipe the gas and check the air [00:38.62] In a hundred times a day [00:40.74] He patiently gave directions [00:43.16] On how to get to the state highway [00:45.17] Usually he'd give 'em water [00:50.49] Or a tyre or two some air [00:52.38] And once a big black Cadillac [00:55.12] Spent seven dollars there [00:56.82] He'd give anybody anything they'd ask [00:59.68] And lend anything he had [01:01.38] His tools are tyres bumper jacks or wire [01:04.40] To the good ones or the bad [01:06.70] In wintertime there was a depot stove [01:10.66] And a table for a checker game [01:12.83] And every mornin' at sunup [01:14.76] The same checker players came [01:17.22] So Cisco Clifton's fillin' station [01:23.45] Was always in the red [01:25.05] Personal loans were personally gone [01:28.18] But never a word was said [01:30.27] One mornin' at eight, them checker players [01:32.96] Heard a big bulldozer roar like a freight [01:35.47] And Cisco said I hope my kids stay fed [01:38.86] When they build that Interstate [01:40.52] He'd managed to pay for property [01:43.11] Where his little fillin' station sat [01:44.85] And friends still came for checker game [01:48.84] So Cisco settled for that [01:51.28] He wouldn't say so but Cisco knew [01:54.05] That the Interstate was too much to fight [01:56.19] But to keep his will and to pay his bills [01:59.72] He did odd jobs at night [02:02.48] He still opened up at sunrise [02:04.73] And the checker game went on [02:07.08] The cars flew past on high test gas [02:10.15] And the neighbors had sold out and gone [02:13.03] If a car ever did go by he was lost [02:16.18] And if they stopped they were treated the same [02:20.07] So at Cisco Clifton's fillin' station [02:24.45] There's a howdy and a checker game [02:30.17]
